The Story Behind the Artwork

In most instances we artists draw for commissions. However, I did this one from the heart. Mr. Paul the Producer is more than a radio personality — to many listeners of Kameme FM. Every Friday night at 10:00 PM, his Kigooco Show fills homes across Kenya with music that stirs the soul, and every Saturday morning at 10:00 AM, his Ririmbuka Show wakes the spirit with vibrant energy. For me, Paul's shows have been a genuine blessing. The Kigooco Show in particular holds a special place — a Friday night companion that moves and inspires me week after week. As a way of saying thank you — not with words, but with pencil strokes — I set out to create a portrait worthy of the man behind the microphone. Working in graphite on A3 paper, I captured Paul's signature wide-brimmed hat, his infectious smile, and the warmth that listeners only ever get to hear. I completed this drawing on Friday, 19th September 2025 — and kept as a surprise. I presented it on Saturday, 14th February 2026 — Valentine's Day and Paul's birthday — live at Kameme FM Studios during the Ririmbuka Show. The moment Paul held up the framed portrait, the joy on his face said everything. He received it with deep appreciation, and for me, that reaction was worth every hour spent at the drawing board. This piece is a reminder that art is one of the most personal ways to say: your work matters, and it has touched someone's life.
